I just want to let you know that I’m appalled by the crime.

I live in Indiana, around Indianapolis. My sister goes to school in Bloomington.

I’ve never heard a WORD about this until just recently where, I too found this linked on a website with audiences as young as eight years old.

I’m appalled, but I’m proud you had the courage and sense to post a thing like this and raise awareness. Thank you.

oh my god. he used to come in to where i work. and i had no idea this even happened. i live like 1 hour away from crothersville. it was NEVER in my local paper. i knew about up in bloomington because i was attending IU at the time and i was just down the street from where WonJoon Yoon was beaten. i cant believe indiana has no hate crime laws…well, i can because the state is so backwards and has a “country” mentality. and as for the gay panic defense? i’m wondering when it’ll morph into other things such as “black panic” where you were so threatened by the sight of a black person that you act on “temporary insanity” and beat 1 to death because 1 hit on you or something.

i’m aarons’ daughters mom. i’m so upset over all this!she is so lost without her father! garret gray is now wanting a plea bargin of 35 years do 17! what kind of justice system do we have?people who murder should be locked up forever! these guys are lookn’ at 65 years max!!!! most likely doubt they’ll get much time at all!!!! we need help to get justice here!!!my daughter just turned 10 a week after we laid here dad to rest. please if you can tell everybody you know about this injustice!!!!!we need help!!!!!

I am married to Aaron’s step brother, we live in the Cleveland, OH area, and didn’t know about this until June. I only met Aaron once, and spent three days with him (when my husband’s dad past away 5 years ago) and he seemed like a very nice, good natured guy who ADORED his daughter and loved to talk about hunting and fishing.

Something like this should not happen to ANYONE, regardless of their sexuality (Aaron was not gay) Those animals that did that to him should receive the death penalty.

That is absolutely horrifying.
And what happens to be worse about this is that I found a link to this on a CHILDREN’S website under someone’s post, yet I have not seen a single report on any news stations or in any newspapers.
Even though I’m in Washington where my chances of seeing this report are way less than in Indianna, I’m still appauled something as terrible as this hasn’t reached mass media.
I’m very glad you’ve written this article. You’re making a great difference in the minds of many people.

James, and whoever else that might wants to go into Criminology or Law or the like– don’t let the “I want to help people but if it doesn’t get attention, it’s not important” attitude prevent you from going into that field; in fact, it should BE the thing that motivates you into that field !
If we who have common sense avoid a problem because it is a problem, then it’ll never get fixed. There’s so much wrong with our law system today, and that’s probably why it’s up to us– the newer generation, the ones who recognize those problems and are willing to use common sense instead of old and no longer practical traditions– to try to get rid of it.

I lived in Kentucky a few years ago and watched a case of a young man who was beaten and stuffed in a suitcase and then watched the young men who did it practically walk away from it because they cited “gay panic” as their defense. I cannot believe that this can still legitimately be used as a defense in this country. Any judge worth their robes should throw that defense right out the window.

I’m really big into Criminology but it’s things like this that deter me from wanting to major in it. I want to help people but it seems like “if it’s not good enough to catch more than a few peoples attention, it’s not important.” I can’t stand how murderers, rapists, thief’s, etc. can get away with a crime because common sense does not take effect in a court room. The laws are mainly moral and taboo based, and morals and taboo’s are based off common sense of good and wrong, so why can’t we use common sense as an active defense or prosecution? Is there any word on how long they’re put away for yet?
